Summer Dress Week: Linen for Hot Days

Jul 19, 2021

What do you wear when it’s 115-degrees in Washington State?  Let’s just say that there’s a reason why the people in the Caribbean wear so much linen.  And while linen has never been my favorite material, I am happy to live with the wrinkles if it grants me some relief from the sweltering heat.

I like this Rails Eden Midi-Dress because it doesn’t fit too close to the body.  The loose-fit and the linen fabric gives this dress a breezy quality that’s magic on a hot day.  The lacework details and ruffle accents are also lovely.  The brand’s striped Ashlyn dress and this olive v-neck dress from Graham and Spencer are also worth a look.

Need something under-$100?  This simple t-shirt dress from COS is a nice option.  This tie-strap dress from Saks is a great choice for date night.  And this chambray shirtdress from Halogen is preppy without being over the top.

Plus-size?  Eileen Fisher and this Madewell dress with embroidered sleeves have you covered.  Petite?  Try this popover dress from Chico’s or this Ann Taylor shirtdress.

I avoid linen like the plague because you pretty much always have to dry clean (or iron, which I literally cannot do).

Why would you do either? I’m so confused. Have been wearing linen since I was a little girl. You wash it, air dry it, and wear it. That’s it.
