Started during a sweltering congressional recess in August 2008, Capitol Hill Style is a fashion and lifestyle blog written for women who care about their careers and how they dress. From the first post, Capitol Hill Style has been a place for those who understand that the "right clothes open all doors," empowering women to look and feel their best while doing their best work.
Over the past 16 years, Capitol Hill Style has grown beyond the Beltway to serve a more diverse readership. As such, the content now includes style and beauty advice for working Moms, ladies who work from home, and women still walking the marble halls of courthouses and government buildings (albeit in flatter shoes).
Abra Belke is the longtime editor of Capitol Hill Style and the creator of Thirtyish and The Briefcase.
Born in Montana, Abra's lifelong passion for government led her to a career as a staffer for the U.S. Congress and serving as a Chief of Staff and Special Counsel at the Montana State Legislature. In 2016, she graduated from law school with honors and began a new career as an attorney. While blogging may be her side hustle, creating a vibrant online community for working women is one of her proudest accomplishments.
After starting Capitol Hill Style, Abra created content for Forbes, Washington City Paper, The Washington Post Express, and WAMU. She has been featured as a political style expert in Time Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Post, Refinery 29, and more. Abra is a prolific public speaker on the topics of professional fashion and women's empowerment, hosting and participating in panel discussions for law schools, universities, non-profits, and companies like MM LaFleur and The Wing.
Abra is a mother to her beloved daughter, Sloane, who is the joy of her life. It is because of her daughter that Abra continues to advocate for needed policy changes as a board member at 97Percent and a volunteer for multiple political organizations and nonprofits.
In Abra's limited free time, she enjoys long walks in the wilds of Montana or through her current neighborhood in Washington state, and spending time with her husband, her two dogs, and her extended family.
