Hi Belle,
My Mom gave me a midi skirt for my birthday and I love it. I know they’re a big trend this fall and I’d like to buy one or two more of them. Can you help me find a black pencil midi, and maybe one more that is more interesting? I love your blog and would love your help!!!
Sincerely, KS
Midi-skirts are on a lot of must-have lists this fall. I’ve tried on a few styles that I like, but a word of caution about midis: You need to tailor them to the perfect midi-length for you. Because I have shorter legs, my perfect length is just under the knee. For other women, it might be mid-calf. So if you try one on and it’s not super flattering, try one in another length or pin it up to see that skirt at another length.
Vince Camuto Ponte Midi-Skirt ($69)
For a relaxed take on the pencil skirt, try this ponte number from Vince Camuto. I also love this Gianni Bini skirt that has a professional look and sleek shape (it’s also machine washable). And check out the texture on this under-$50 skirt from Jane Norman–it’s fun and functional.
Plus-size? This Old Navy skirt is a great option at a great price.
Faux Leather Midi Skirt ($119)
I thought this a-line leather skirt was kind of fun, especially in the less-common navy color. I also found this dotted Halogen skirt in a fuller, pleated style (so Kate Spade). This burgundy jacquard number, with a full shape, has a vintage feel to it.
Prefer something sleeker? This embellished midi-skirt from Search for Sanity has a cool, studded look. This crochet-lace skirt is another fabulous choice.
Definitely a fan of these midi skirts than the first ones that came out a year or two ago that were mostly mid-calf. These are so much more flattering.
I’d love to see outfit ideas for knife-pleat midis and the burgundy midi.
Can a midi skirt be worn with flats? I hurt my back so heels (even wedges!) are off the table for now. I’m 5’9, so I might be able to pull off the proportions, but I don’t want to look dumpy.
I picked up a ruched Vince Camuto midi skirt during the last Nordstrom sale and I love it. It’s a little va-va-voom for work but I can’t wait to wear it for date nights in the fall. Would also love to see outfit ideas for midi skirts!
