I love the dry wit of this “inspirational” quote is from E.B. White was featured on one of my regular blog-reads, Note to Self.
Speaking of blog reading, I am heartbroken about the forthcoming death of Google Reader. I tried Feedly as a replacement, but it’s just no for me. I think I’ll start using The Old Reader until I see what Digg’s new software has in store for us.
Looking for off-appropriate nail colors that are also gorgeous and fashion forward? Check out the new Naked Nail Set from Urban Decay. It’s major.
I’m a bit of an information junkie (aren’t all politicos?) but I’m not an economist, so I put out a call earlier this week for a quick and dirty explanation of the banking crisis in Cyprus. A Twitter follower suggested this article on Washington Post’s WonkBlog, which I found informative. I also signed up for The Skimm, a fantastic daily newsletter that keeps busy professionals up-to-date on the latest news.
I love this under-$50 ballet-wrap dress from Asos. Flirty, stylish and comfortable…just how I like it.
After six months, I’m finally taking the task of decorating my apartment seriously. This chic mix of neutrals and color is a source of inspiration. And I’m looking to create a gallery wall, but I can’t decide if I want to keep it linear or mix it up.
A recent fire in my neighbor’s apartment has me rethinking the number of scented candles I burn on a regular basis. Luckily, Jo Malone makes a diffuser for her crisp and yummy Lime Basil Mandarin scent.
March Madness Bracket Busted? You can still enjoy the snarky goodness and shockingly bad fashion of FugMadness 2013 over at Go Fug Yourself.
The Michael Kors Selma bag is my obsession. But if you’re looking for something with a strong shape in a lower price point, try this Topshop Winged Satchel.
Want to spend some time this weekend baking up a storm? Try this delectable Marscapone cake with strawberries from Sweetsonian or these refreshing Creme de Menthe stuffed chocolate cookies.
I like this format! Its a fun thing to do on Fridays.
For a quick and dirty news you should know round up I also love the shorts in the front of the Economist.
I have gallery walls…. well the pictures have taken over my living room. 🙂 I mix it up
Thanks for the Old Reader suggestion. I’ve been using feedly but it eats up so much memory and was slowing down my other browsing when I left it running in another window.
I hated feedly because I want to read the whole story, not the title.
If you click on the little gear for settings, there should be an option for “Full Articles.”
[headdesk] yeah, of course, I missed that. [facepalm]
Uff da, that’s quite a rough paraphrase of E.B. White.
“I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.â€
Oh my gosh, you caught me. I googled, but clearly the paraphrase has made its way around the net, cuz it was everywhere. But thanks for clearing up the confusion.
It’s funny you mentioned the candles. I LOVE burning scented candles as well and recently noticed wax accumulating on my ceiling/wall. Anyone have a good way to prevent this (aside from keeping the windows open, which isn’t really possible in New England this time of year)?
You have more freedom with a mixed gallery wall than with a linear one where you’re confined to choose one style of frame, one shape, one size, etc. I think it’s way easier to combine an assortment of frames according to however you feel when you’re looking at it. Then you can replace/reshape for seasons, or as your collection grows.
That being said, a linear approach is cleaner, crisper, and more organized. If you have a lot of knick-knacks and “clutter” in other spaces of your apartment, you might appreciate the structure that comes from a simple gallery wall.
Your choice Belle, really feel like you can’t go wrong! 😉
I used this Martha Stewart idea for our gallery wall – I thought it was a good combo of linear and mixed, and it turned out great. We get compliments on it all the time.

Hey Belle – I have been a faithful reader – every post! for years. I just wanted to leave a comment saying A) this was a particularly great roundup, B) I so agree with you about Google Reader! and C) you are just totally rocking the blog. The new features, the frequent, beautiful posts, the mix of fashion, career, and life… you’re doing so great. I know it must be a hell of a lot of work but keep it up!
Also, one final thing: thanks so much for posting about organ donation. I signed up online (was already a donor through my license) and spread the word on my facebook wall.
Have you tried bloglovin’? I always liked it better than google reader.
Another great explanation of Cyprus: https://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/03/absolute-morons-guide-to-the-cyprus-bailout.html
For your gallery wall, try picture ledges! Just put your frames on a shelf, and mix them up whenever you want, without worrying about patching nail holes if you change your mind. You can go linear or eclectic. I love the look of a white ledge on a white wall.
West Elm sells them

And IKEA has them too

I’m so glad you mentioned The Skimm. There’s quite a network of lady grad students here in New York City who are obsessed with it. Between The Skimm and your blog, we feel prepped for the days (and years) ahead.
That’s so nice. Thanks.
I have that Asos ballet wrap dress in a shorter length, and I love it. I have to keep track of how often I wear it so it doesn’t become a uniform.
I couldn’t help myself. I had to buy the Asos midi ballet wrap dress in Navy ($45?! And free shipping?!!). NO REGRETS. I’m wearing it today and considering buying it in every color there is.
Long story short, it was a GREAT recommendation. So comfortable, and I don’t have any other dresses in this length. My wallet and I thank you heartily.
