Best of 2024: The High Heel

Dec 17, 2024

During my pregnancy, my feet were so swollen that shoes at work became optional around week 32. Even when my feet finally deflated, they were never the same again. High heels stopped being an option if I needed to stand for more than 15-minutes. Until I found these.

The first time I wore these Perfect Block Sandals, I was just hoping to be able to stand for 30-minutes without pain. But three hours later, my feet still felt amazing. With a 2.5″ heel, these sandals gave me lift without destroying my feet, my legs and my back for days.

I loved them so much, that I went out and bought a pair of Emma block heel slingbacks for work. I loved the simple style and how great they looked peeking out from under a pair of wide leg trousers.

I tried Sarah Flint flats several years ago, and didn’t have great luck. They weren’t built for my feet. But these heels are the perfect height, incredibly stable, and very chic. I wore the Emmas for a full day at the office and then wore the sandals to dinner without any pain. It was like a gift.

If you haven’t been able to find a comfortable pair of heels for work or for events, give these a try. They were one of my best picks of the year. They’re a little spendy, but I know I will be wearing them years from now.

Any recs for comfortable shoes under $100? I cannot justify $450 on a pair of heels…

The only heels I own in that price point that I think are comfortable are these. https://shopstyle.it/l/ckeY6 Ten years ago, I would never have bought shoes this spendy. But I’m at an age where I have owned the same shoes since the 2010s, and I get them repaired instead of replacing them, so it’s worth it to me.

Not in your price point but still significantly less. Try Bared Footwear. I own heels, flats and boots and they are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I never thought I would pay just under $300 for shoes but they are completely worth it. Customer service has been great and they look brand new after a year of constant wear.

Thank you for this comment – I’ve been about to pull the trigger on Bared shoes as I need a lot more support than I used to, but then I found a Reddit thread complaining about recent quality. Have you noticed any issues with the newer pairs that you’ve bought?

I also have Bared Footwear, and they are amazing. Not as elegant as Sarah Flint (which I also own), but incredibly well made. Their loan program lets you order multiple sizes and return the ones that don’t fit, and their customer service is incredible. Their current sales are pretty great.

Also love the look of the stacked heel! Leather wrapped always seem to get nicked up easily.

Have you tried Aerosoles? I have them in 3” & 2.5” with block heels (both suede and leather) and love the comfort. Paid under $100 for most pairs on sale.

I have three pairs of the Emmas (two Perfect Emma and one pair of slingbacks) and they are still going strong after three years. But wow the price point is so much higher since then.
