A white or cream business suit is a great choice in the summer, but who needs to spend hundreds of dollars on a suit that they can only wear three months of the year? Here’s how to restyle your white or cream suit for fall/winter.
Cream Suits vs. White Suits // For my money, a cream or ivory suit gives me more months of wear than a bright white suit. This cream suit from LK Bennett is a stunner. In a lower price point, both Ann Taylor and WHBM make a slightly off-white suit in misses and petite. Plus-size? This Kasper suit is worth a look.
Neutrals // The first two options for a white suit are all white and white and black. I didn’t add these choices to the graphic, because it’s fairly easy to imagine what they would look like. Let’s talk about how to style them.
An all ivory look pairs this suit with Ann Taylor v-neck top in ivory. Then, add an ivory trench coat for the full Olivia Pope look. Add this little ivory shoulder bag from Coach with a cool buckle detail. Finally, to really boost the look, you want a burgundy patent heel like this Flexi pump from Macy’s. The burgundy adds a pop of color and an unexpected touch.
For a black and ivory look, don’t miss these kitten heel tall boots from the Anniversary Sale. Add a black tight. Then, pick a black tie neck blouse with a wider tie for a bit of drama. Finally, add this gold hoop with a black enamel accent. So chic.
Chocolate Brown // Brown and ivory is not the most common combination, but it is so elegant. Quince offers this hot fudge color in so many styles, that you are sure to find the one you love.
For the tights, you could choose chocolate brown tights, but to lighten the look, I selected these micro-fishnets. Add in the chocolate brown suede boots and you have it made. Also, if you need tights or nylons this fall, hit up Calzedonia; they have so many choices.
For this look, I wanted a taupe bag to lighten things up. Tan would have brought too much yellow undertone to the party, so taupe was just the ticket. This bag from Demellier caught my eye. I also like this tote bag from Everlane.
To finish the look, I chose these gold hoops (don’t worry that the button on the suit is white metal) with a bit of chunk and an affordable price. And I added a red lip to boost that 80s glam factor with the dark brown. If you’re looking for a drugstore-priced red lip, this Milani Best Red is worth a look.
Green and Grey // This dark green blouse grabbed my attention and never let go. The deep emerald color of this Paige top is sublime. Universal Standard offers a similar color for a bit less, and it comes in XS-4XL sizes. It also comes in short sleeve. Quince also has an affordable option. Regardless, the lesson is not to sleep on dark green and ivory as a combination for fall/winter.
Once again, I added a Calzedonia tight in charcoal grey. I also chose these t-strap heel from Sundance company. They’re all kinds of vintage goodness. Prefer another style? Now is a great time for an ankle boot.
Finish off the look with a berry lip to complement the green top with more jewel tones. Then, add a silver pendant to define the neckline and coordinate with the hardware on the jacket. It’s not essential that the hardware match your jewelry, but it’s nice when it works out. Finally, add a lighter grey bag to complete the look.
