And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
When I spotted this outfit from Joanna Rahier on Pinterest, I was taken with its crispness and subtle elegance. The outfit radiates ease of wear but retains a professional appeal. Here is how to recreate it.
The Pants // These linen pants are from Victoria Beckham’s line for Mango. They have a modern cut that blends a masculine and feminine aesthetic. For me, they might be a touch see-through. If you feel similarly, I recommend these oatmeal-hued wide leg pants from Petal & Pup.
Plus-size? Try this pair from Reformation. Pregnant? Linen will help keep you cool this summer even when it feels like your body is on fire. This pair from ASOS is worth a look.
The Shirt // What makes this shirt work is the way it fits — slightly away from the body, with a hint of drape. To achieve the perfectly slouchy look, go for an oversized shirt, like this one from Everlane. Prefer a shorter sleeve? This one from Nordstrom Rack has a sculptural sleeve and a simple style.
Accessories // Let’s start with the bra. The shirt is worn slightly open in the photo, so if you’re looking for a way to wear this outfit casually, a hint of lace from this lace plunge bralette isn’t a bad idea. For work, no. But for weekend, it’s a yes for me.
Next, the look would not be complete without a long, thin belt. I like how the end is hanging in the photo, it’s relaxed, unfussy. This belt from J.Crew is the perfect option.
Obviously, I cannot abide by wearing what are basically shower shoes to anywhere but the beach. So, I switched them out for these Dolce Vita sandals. They’re such a versatile choice for summer. For something more work appropriate, try these Linea Paolo slingback sandals or these black huaraches.
For the bag, I chose this incredible Cuyana Paloma bag. The style is so unique. For something similar under-$150, try this bag from Free People.
Lastly, these earrings from David Yurman are absolutely stunning. The mix of metals and textures is so chic. The price point is certainly corner office, but they’re utterly fabulous. On the more affordable side, try these mixed metal hoops from Missoma.
Styling // A little bit of lip color is always called for when you’re wearing black and white. This Summer Fridays gloss is my current favorite. The rosy brown shade is my favorite because it gives a hint of color without being too bright. It reminds me of Clinique Black Honey.
As for the hair, keep it light and breezy. Wear it down in your hair’s natural texture. The point is to look effortless.

What a fun and beautiful breakdown. I love your high-low (moderate?) 🙂 options as choices and inspiration. Thank you as always!
I LOVE this look and would not have thought to put it together (or that I could pull it off??).
