Does anyone really know how to dress for a rainy February? It’s not winter. It’s not spring. Sweaters seem heavy. Just a shirt feels like you’ll be cold. It’s a puzzle.
This outfit feels just right for when you need to layer, but want lightness. Layering a chambray shirt over simple black pieces gives you an extra layer for warmth without the bulk. The collar also looks great on a Zoom call, more professional than just the tee. Here’s how to recreate it.
Shirt // The item in the post is a denim shacket. That’s not my best look, and I’m not going to shop for a piece I don’t really need when I have a denim shirt at home to wear. This J.Crew Chambray shirt is awesome. It’s a workhorse in my wardrobe and if you own one, you understand why. It’s a good middle-light weight, it also irons up beautifully.
Need a good iron? This Nori Press steamer-iron makes getting the wrinkles out of your clothes idiot-proof. It’s a great tool. Also, it’s small enough to travel with.
Tee // I own this Whisper v-neck from Madewell and I love it. A lot. I wouldn’t buy white, because it’s a bit sheer, but in black, it’s perfect. It’s fairly oversized. I should be a medium, but in a small, it fits loose, but not big.
Prefer something that fits closer to the body? Try this American Giant tee. It’s well-made, from 100% U.S.-grown cotton, and so cozy. I bought one in white, and I wear it often.
Pants // The inspo image featured black skinny jeans. And while I love a dark denim, by ever-changing postpartum body needs a softer fabric. I chose these ponte pants from NYDJ for comfort. Plus, you can wear them to the office as well. I also love these Spanx ponte pants, which have a real Audrey Hepburn vibe to them. Plus-size? Lane Bryant has you covered.
Shoes // Yes, a pair of chunky Birkenstocks would work here. (I have the ones with the big buckle.) But it’s still a bit cold for that. Instead, I chose a Rothy’s driver. This easy style works for commuting or work from home. It’s a great shoe, wears like iron.
Accessories // Silver isn’t usually my look, but for this color combination, yellow metal is a bit too warm. This silver collar necklace from Nordstrom Rack makes a simple statement for under-$20. I also like these oversized, chunky hoops for about $20. These are a very modern style earring that works for the office or for your off-time.
Styling // I would wear my hair up with this look. Probably in a relaxed bun. (This video shows you how to put it together.) As for makeup, you need some lip color. I’ll write more about it tomorrow, but this Summer Fridays lip is the bomb.

Oh, I love this look! I have that shirt from J Crew already and much appreciate the advice on how to style it. I’ll even dig out my silver jewelry (which I never wear as I prefer gold) based on your note! Thank you!
Love this look! I also discovered Liverpool Los Angeles at Nordstrom which I think is comparable to Spanx (don’t know about NYDJ) and the pants were slightly less expensive.
Thank you for deciding for me what Iām wearing to work today! š
