Happy Hour: Tequila in Summer

Jun 2, 2023

Who amongst us has not been personally victimized by tequila?  Maybe in college or on a trip to Mexico or sitting by the lake with friends at 37, having never had more than one margarita in a sitting and being completely unpracticed at surviving the agave assault?  But tequila in summer can be refreshing, even if more than two margaritas might be deadly after 40.

This recipe from the New York Times blends fresh watermelon, tequila, and lime.  Optional ingredients include jalapeño and a sea salt and Tajin rim.  Both are recommended.

It’s a great cocktail to make in large batches for a party.  It’s also a good drink to mix with seltzer water if, like me, you want a drink with less alcohol.  Pouring the drink into a tall glass with a little watermelon and lime seltzer gives me two cocktails for the price of one.  And with tequila, there is always a price.

As you know, I am opposed to office linen.  It wrinkles.  It holds smells.  It’s a fabric meant for the beach not the boardroom.  Luckily, this H&M dress in bright pink is perfect for all of your beachy and backyard needs.  Sizing runs XS to XXL.

For brightly colored linen options, I also like this Gap Factory Halter and this wrap dress with a flamenco ruffle.  You also don’t want to miss this Tory Burch linen dress that gives Nancy Meyers in Baja vibes.  For plus size readers, try this flutter sleeve dress from Nordstrom.

+1 on seltzer with tequila drinks! It’s great to add to basically any margarita. It’s really refreshing, and if you *enjoy* tequila (I do!) it is a safe way to be able to, well, enjoy it without suffering. Love it in palomas too; I modify my recipe to swap grapefruit sparkling water for grapefruit soda to skip some of the sugar.
