Opinion Page: Product Follow-Ups, Vol. XIV

May 30, 2023

It’s time again to follow-up on the products that I’ve already purchased.  Today, we’re discussing an influencer-loved hair product that was a total bust, an affordable sandal that I adore, and more.  Let’s get started.

Are you in need of a “nice” sandal?  Something that you can wear to dinner, to drinks, to church, perhaps, even to work on Friday?  A sandal that hasn’t been beaten to hell on multiple weekends chasing a toddler through a playground?  Something that’s a bit fancier than your standard flat sandal?

Then, this Dolce Vita Marly sandal is it.  This sandal is comfortable and easy to wear.  The sandal also has great metallic details and a lizard-embossed leather for a little boost.  It’s comfortable enough for the beach but nice enough to wear under a maxi dress for a relaxed wedding look.  Prefer a non-metallic option?  I also own this Leanna sandal that comes in both metallic and non-metallic options.  Or if you need a wide-width option, these Vionic sandals are a good place to start.

Over the course of five weeks, I was served this Color Wow Xtra Large Mousse approximately 1,400 times, rounding down.  So many videos of women with bombshell, Texas-sized hair telling me that this mousse is a miracle.  And Lord knows, I love a big hair moment.

But I didn’t get it.  This mousse is trash.  No lift.  No life.  The Target mousse and the Ouai spray are both better.  Skip it.

Yesterday, I turned 41 and the desire to keep the sun off of my face has yielded a need for hats.  Lots of hats.  I own this classic cap in two colors.  I own this wraparound straw visor.  And now, I own this impossibly cute baseball cap with a bow-tie back.  It looks great with a pair of denim shorts and a gauze shirt or with a tennis dress.  It’s just a cute piece to wear when I need to be outside and my face needs to be out of the sun.

For a few weeks, I’ve had an Ann Taylor gift card burning a hole in my pocket.  So when this marigold dress popped onto my radar, I was sold.  I order the burnished gold color and the easy style.  I swapped out that terrible tie belt and grabbed a raffia belt from Mango instead.  The other great things about this dress is how easy it is to dress it down with flat sandals and a straw belt or layer it up and add simple heels for work.  It’s going to get a lot of wear this summer.

Thank you for the continued honesty in posts. I love the follow ups, and when you continue to preach the tried and true products/clothing (I should have listened earlier on K18!) Happy belated birthday, Abra!
