The Find: Black Pants You Want to Wear

Feb 15, 2022

After a decade of only wearing dresses and skirts, I’m back in pants.  Mostly because I’m cold, partially because I don’t want to shave my legs or be pinched by tights.  This is what old age looks like — no longer giving any f*cks.

Sadly, Ann Taylor stopped making the stretchy, side-zip black pants that I have been living in all winter (they still make them in grey, though).  So I needed to go searching for something similar, and I found two options.

NYDJ Scuplt-Her is a great line of pants that are both comfortable and flattering.  Their wide-leg, pull-on pants are perfect for work, but feel like the yoga pants you wore in the early-2000s.  They make several styles of skirts and pants, but the wide legs and the straight legs are great for work.  The leggings are also a nice, heavy material that looks more like a skinny pant than a legging.

Sizing on these pants is XXS to XL, which the guide says is 0 to 18.  NYDJ also has a plus-size Sculpt-Her line.

Spanx also makes a line of work-appropriate pants in soft, comfortable fabrics called The Perfect Pant.  I own their flare leg pants, which are great for traveling.  They also make straight and leggings styles.

They come in black and navy.  For sizing, you can find them in petite, tall and plus.

Charter Club Cambridge Slim pull on pants are my saving grace right now. Very comfortable, often on sale for around $35 from macys, machine washable and look like real pants. I say this as someone who hasn’t worn pants in over 5 years and struggles with the feeling of a waistband.

Came to say I ADORE the NYDJ straight leg pants. I got a pair this fall on clearance at Nordies and have washed and worn them consistently every week since and they could pass for brand new right now. They are such good quality, it feels like early 2000s level fabric. I cannot say enough about how much I love them!

Belle/Abra, how do they compare? I’ve been considering trying both of them, only need one pair though since I’m still in dress only camp in the spring/summer/fall.

I have been looking at some similar type pants but kind of at a loss on how to style them? Do you have any ideas/tips? I’m not sure why, maybe it’s the elastic waist band or just that I haven’t worn pants in years!

I recommend the Ann Taylor Easy Ankle pant is amazing. I get it in all the colors. Super comfy.
