On some days, I wear a nice dress to work — usually when I’m meeting clients. On Fridays or holidays, I wear denim. But on the in-between days, I like to find looks that are relaxed business attire. Looks that say lawyer, but one who works in a casual office. This outfit is such a look.
This street style look from Vogue is a stylish look for the office. It’s not stuffy, but it is cool. And all of the pieces can be worn in other outfits because they’re great basics for layering.
Blazer. This herringbone blazer from Banana Republic is incredibly well made, has good weight to it, and is a classic you can wear for years to come (also in tall). Looking for something under-$100? Macy’s has this Black Tape blazer for sale. The Black Tape blazer also comes in plus. Petite? Banana Republic has an Italian wool herringbone blazer that’s worth a look.
Blouse. This twist-front blouse from L’Agence is one of my favorites. It’s a fantastic top. Want something for under-$60? This top from GibsonLook is a fantastic top that comes in several colors. It is a true work staple. Plus-size? Try this Halogen cross-front blouse.
Pants. When I need a legging-like feel in an actual pant, there is only one place to go: The J.Crew Pixie Pant.
Shoes. Slingbacks are having a moments right now. This Chinese Laundry pair are a great option. I love the bow on this Linea Paolo pair (under-$50!). Wide feet? Try these Trotters flats.
Scarf. If you own a designer scarf — maybe you got it as a gift, inherited it, or just love a little luxury — this is the time to wear it. This Gucci Horsebit scarf is amazing. Looking for something more affordable? Try this green and black LeScarf (also in white and black).
Necklace. Missoma is having an awesome sale, and this Sphere pendant is one of the best pieces in it. It’s perfect for layering.
Nail Polish. A dark nail polish is a nice option for winter, if your workplace will allow it. This Smith & Cult Dirty Baby polish is a slightly sparkly dark charcoal that’s give a little bit of rocker-chic.
Styling. How you style your hair with this outfit will change the look you’re going for. If you wear it in an updo, like a French twist or a chignon, it’s going to feel more formal. If you wear it down and teased at the roots, it will feel more relaxed.

Love this and it’s perfect for my office if we ever go back!
Hi Abra, could you possibly do a post on different ways to wear scarves? I would love to know what to do with the ones that I have. Thanks!
Loved these suggestions, and I just bought several of the items. Thanks, as always, for your informative posts and links!
