This holiday, I’m sending a number of gifts to professional colleagues and personal friends who are spread across the country. Given shipping and supply chain challenges, many recipients will be receiving gifts delivered from services like Drizly and Shipt. And when it comes to Drizly gifts, picking a good bottle can be a challenge, so here are a few of my favorites.
If the recipient has a favorite brand of booze, you can buy them the same spirit, but an upgraded version. For example, if someone buys Buffalo Trace for themself, you can buy them a bottle of Eagle Rare, a nicer spirit from the same maker. But I have a few bottles that I like to give as gifts that run between $100 and $200.
For the Rye Drinker: Whistle Pig Farmstock Rye is a bit off the beaten path.
For the Whisky Drinker: Hibiki Harmony is my husband’s favorite.
For the Scotch Drinker: Even I like Green Spot, and I never drink Scotch.
For the Champagne Drinker: 2010 Dom Perignon is one of my favorites (it tastes lightly of pineapple).
Red Wine: Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon
Looking for some booze-adjacent gifts? I love the Haus Sampler, which includes flavored aperitifs. (The spiced cherry is my favorite.) I always like a big ice cube mold for drinkers of brown liquor (boil the water to get the cubes clear). For tequila drinkers, these pink salt shot glasses are fun. And if you have a beer drinker to buy a gift for, these pressurized growlers are a great option.
Have a non-drinker but need an edible gift that delivers? If someone in your life enjoys cooking different Asian cuisines or just likes spicy food, Fly by Jing has a nice gift set. Bonne Maman does a 12 days of Christmas set of jams and honeys. I recently discovered SmashMallows, marshmallows for snacking or s’mores or cocoa.
Lastly, there’s a local business here in Spokane called Spiceology that has really blown up in the past few years. They have great gift packs of rubs and spices. And if you have someone who needs to eat less salt (hi, Mom), they have salt-free lines as well (the Greek Freak is really good on chicken).

Related to this, I gave my husband handmade copper mugs one year from a small business in my home state, Handlebend: https://www.handlebend.com/ They are hefty and well made and come packed in a rustic crate and are a unique gift for hard-to-buy-for men.
