Summer Dress Week: Nap Dresses

When Nap Dresses appeared on the scene this spring, I was less than enthused by their arrival.  I always side eye the big, must have, can’t live without, trends; it’s in my nature to be skeptical of hype since I know how the entire sponsored-promotion culture works.  But sometimes, you see a dress that you like so much, that you buy it despite your misgivings.  And maybe you like it so much that you accidentally wear it to two events in the same two-week period attended by some of the same people.

Maybe.

This Rory Flutter Sleeve Dress from Tuckernuck has a really fun print, and enough of a sleeve that you can wear it a real bra.  It’s breezy, comfortable, and (like most nap dresses) 100% cotton.  It feels very fresh and pretty for a patio dinner or event when you want people to think you dressed up, but feel like you’re in your pajamas.

If you like the nap dress look, you go for the original from Hill House.  This Vineyard Vines dress is also nice.

I liked this smocked top style so much, that also bought this dress from Lucien Hanna with tie straps.  I grabbed the yellow dotted, but the neutral is lovely as well.  I also love this striped one from Amazon; again, it has a wide strap so a real bra is possible.  And if you like this trend and want to dive in head first, straight into the deep end, this R. Vivimos dress is a pink, floral print is a big splash.

Plus-size?  I searched around, and this dress from Eloquii is the smocked-top frock that I liked best, but I also found this one from Nasty Gal.
