I know I’m getting older because the trends of my youth are all fresh again — Dr. Marten’s, wide leg jeans, cropped tops with oversized blazers, etc.. It’s an odd thing to see young people calling the discarded trends of your youth current. But judging from magazines and e-mails and blog posts, the long boyfriend cardigans are giving way to shorter styles.
This cropped cardigan from Everlane is shorter than the longer styles I’ve been wearing for years, and slightly oversized like the current trends. It comes in several colors and sizes from XXS to XL. I like it because it’s shorter, but not a rib-length crop top.
If you’re looking for a shorter style, Everlane also has a v-neck style that is a bit more mid-90s Claire Daines. I also like this puff sleeve crop sweater from Lulu’s (it’s really cute). If you want to buy that sweater but are a little iffy on how to wear it, I would suggest wearing it over a simple black sheath.
Plus-size? This Skylar Rose cardigan is fun with the textured knit sleeve. Eloquii also makes a lovely cropped cardigan.
Tall? Obviously you don’t want your cardigan to look like a bralette with sleeves. Missguided has a few cardigans adjusted to tall lengths. ASOS’s tall line also has a few.

I really hope this is true! I never got on board with the long cardigan. Short ones are so much more my scene!
I have a couple of the Boden cropped cashmere cardigans and they’re great. I wear them mostly with sheath dresses.
Wanted to say THANK YOU for the Athlete pants recommendation- I bought a pair and love them so much I bought more! They’re magic pants! Really flattering and comfortable like pajamas!
Also chiming in to say thanks for the Athleta pants. I was HIGHLY skeptical that a pant from Athleta could be worn to work but after reading the rave reviews I caved and they really are stellar. They’re going to be a lifesaver when I return to the office at the end of the month.
Cropped is one thing, but let’s hope shrugs never make a comeback! Shudder.
Ahhh haha I forgot shrugs existed. I had a few… I actually really liked them! But I cannot imagine wearing them now, in my late thirties, with much more of a belly now than I had back then! 🙂
