Happy New Year! I hope you had a nice weekend. We’re back today with a relaxed outfit that’s good for weekend, casual Friday, or traveling (fingers crossed). And I’ve tweaked the original a bit to make it more comfortable as well. So let’s get started.
This look comes from Portland-based blogger Crystalin Marie. I see this outfit and it looks like the perfect thing for a casual Friday. The layering is on point and the whole look gives off a completely effortless vibe.
Shawl // This tasseled wrap from Yoox is a great piece. Layer it over a casual look. Wear it over a cocktail dress. Wrap it around yourself for a pajama Sunday spent on the sofa. I’d also give this Bloomingdale’s cashmere wrap a try (esp. since it’s <$80).
Jeans // Yes, these are another pair of pull on denim jeans. Outside of a global pandemic, I would only recommend these for travel. But sometimes it’s nice to have the look of denim with the waistband of a legging.
These ankle-length NYDJ jeans are a great pair. If you cover up the waistband, no one will know they’re not real jeans. If skinny styles aren’t your thing, NYDJ also makes a straight leg jean. And they make them in plus-size.
Shirt // As I mentioned, you do need to cover up the waistband to hide the fact that you’re basically wearing 2020’s version of the legging. And since I like to half-tuck my button ups, I replaced that shirt with a tie-front top from Express. Plus-size? Madewell has a similar shirt on offer.
Or you can always buy my favorite basic button-up from Banana Republic and just tie the front up. Also in tall and petite.
Boots // The slide-on mules in the photo are not an option where I live. Not at all. I would probably lose a toe to frost bite. So I decided to swap them out for these super-chic winter boots from Sorel. These waterproof boots give off a classic Timberland vibe in a softer color palette that looks very modern. Need something more affordable? These Spring Step boots are a little darker, but the same style.
Accessories // Let’s begin with this fun side-tassel saddle bag. This bag is one of those purses that you’ll reach for over and over again. It’s classic, simple and perfect for running errands or traveling. And it’s rare to find a real leather bag for <$100.
Of course, we have my favorite Ray Ban Aviators. And these plain claw huggie earrings from Missoma are the every day version of my favorite pave buggies. Seriously, if you’ve been sleeping on the Missoma brand, head over there for some window shopping.

This outfit makes me wish I was going to the office right now. As much as loungewear is comfortable, I miss effortless style like this and somewhere to wear it.
I ordered the NYDJ skinnies – they’re amazing. Other than wishing that they had front pockets, they are perfect. Thanks for the recommendation!
