Traveling means packing for the conditions. I’m heading to Northern California in March, and it won’t be warm, but it also won’t be cold. Taking my winter coat won’t make any sense, but a trench won’t be quite warm enough. This Amazon puffer is the perfect in-between.
This Amazon Essentials puffer is a good mid-weight for early spring or early fall. It is also packable, so you can take it on a trip without much hassle. It comes in eight colors and clocks in at under-$40.
Need a heavier coat? I own this hooded Amazon Essentials puffer, and I love it. It’s so warm. And while it’s definitely thicker than the packable one above, it doesn’t feel too bulky.

If you ever need to take a bigger puffer coat but want to save luggage space, I strongly recommend purchasing a “stuff sack” if your coat didn’t come with one. My hooded, below-the-knee puffer fits very, very snugly in a 6L sack like the one linked below; a 3L size would likely fit a smaller puffer like the one Abra pictured.

there’s a madewell one that folds into a travel pillow that keeps tempting me… I wish it were a bit cheaper but I just love the pillow idea! this is a good option…
I agree! Uniqlo has some great thin puffer vests, jackets and long coats. I took the long coat with me on a long trip to Spain last February – it’s 70 midday but much cooler in the mornings and at night. It was fantastic. Used it as a coat, pillow and blanket. Cd put it in its small stuff sack and put it in my backpack midday where it took up very little room and weight.
How do you find the sizing on the packable
puffer? I worry about it looking too big/not stylish if I order up a size and then worry about it being too constricting if I order a small.
