Valentine’s Day Lingerie, 2019

Jan 21, 2019

Lingerie: The best thing about Valentine’s Day.  Because if you must have a commercialized holiday to “celebrate love,” stores filled with lacy and racy things is a good side benefit.

This is my favorite post of the year.  I love lingerie.  Wearing lingerie is empowering.  But, as always, it’s important to find lingerie that you are comfortable wearing.  Because it’s hard to feel beautiful and sexy when you’re wearing a costume.

Finding the right lingerie for you is actually pretty simple.  Just follow these three tips.

  • First, ask yourself how much skin you want to show.
  • Second, if you’re not sure what size you are, buy two.  Lingerie that’s too small is a special kind of torture, and you’ll spend the night wishing you could be free of your underwire prison.
  • Third, pick a color that you really love.  Yes, most people (esp. men) think black is the sexiest.  But the hotter you feel, the hotter you’ll look.

Now, let’s go shopping.

Let’s start with my favorite kind of lingerie — bodysuits, corsets, and teddies.  I prefer the one-piece option because the pieces are sexy, while offering a bit of coverage.  Plus, if you choose a lace option, like the Hanky Panky halter-neck below, you can usually avoid wires that may pinch or poke.

For a no-wire option under-$100, try this Bluebella Luella Halter Suit or this Nasty Gal red lace halter suit.  Plus-size? This Oh La La Cheri Plunge suit is great.  I love the slate-grey color.

If you don’t mind a few wires, corsets are so hot.  Agent Provocateur is the gold standard.  This Dita von Teese option gives a similar look for less.  This Victoria Secret corset comes in at $79 and has a more relaxed look.  But my favorite is this leopard and lace option from VS.

Of course, almost all of these options are black.  If you prefer another color, this smoke-colored Jonquil bodysuit and pale rose BHLDN teddy are both lovely.  I also like this hot pink lace teddy from Oh La La Cheri.  Plus-size?  Try this eyelash-lace bodysuit from Eloquii.

If you love lingerie, this is where to put your money.  They’re more wearable than the one-pieces because (if you choose ones that fit) you can wear them under your regular clothing.  They also have more options available.

Have a bit of money to splurge with, go for La Perla or Simone Perele.  This Etched Whisper La Perla set and this Perele Java set (love the more modern lace) are my current favorites.

Not looking for something you can wear more often?  Special occasion lingerie is a lot of fun too.

How adorable is this Free People Crush on You set (more sizes here)?  It’s so pretty and flirty, but relaxed at the same time.  This Only Hearts set in red with sheer insets is also a lot of fun.  For ladies who need larger sizes, try this Figleaves set with a sweet Swiss-dot print.

Looking for something a bit more traditional?  This Bluebella bra set has a gorgeous bow detailing.

Want something more modern and unique?  This high-neck underwire bra from ELSE is so cool.  VS also has a similar set in neon pink.

And now we move on to the most comfortable and wearable options.  For some, a gown or chemise isn’t showy enough.  But if you feel amazing in it, that’s all that matters.

This Only Hearts mini-slip is a sophisticated, but still sexy option.  This dusty-rose Samantha Cheng lace option is awfully pretty.  I love this vibrant, printed slip from VS.  Or give this Wacoal option, with a mix of lace and comfy jersey, a try.

If you prefer a shorter chemise, this bright Bluebella one is very fun.  This black lace babydoll from Nasty Gal is also nice.  This desert-pink tulle babydoll from VS is also adorable.

Just looking for something pretty and easy?  This Jonquil shorts set with lace trim has a nice mix of sexy and casual.
