The Essentials: White Blazers

Jul 30, 2018

August is the perfect time to buy a new white blazer.  The summer styles are still in stores, and the sales are plentiful.  While a white blazer may seem like a summer item, I pull mine out of the closet year round.  Here are the best white blazers for sale right now.

White blazers fall into one of two categories: classic or modern styles.  Classic jackets have clean lines and simple, flattering cuts.  Modern jackets have a little something extra, and are often more on the casual side.    But whichever style fits into your wardrobe, white blazers pair well with black, navy, beige, and grey neutrals as well as a wide variety of jewel tones, brights and pastels.

Let’s go shopping.

Donna Karan Classic Long Sleeved Jacket ($110)

This Donna Karan blazer has an elegant look and impeccable tailoring.  It could be worn effortlessly with a variety of professional pieces.  I also like that the blazer is free of distracting hardware so you don’t have to worry about black or gold buttons clashing with other pieces.

Calvin Klein’s sophisticated one-button blazer is worth a look.  This Reiss blazer and this Ted Baker blazer are both on end-of-summer discount. If you’re in the market for something a bit longer, this Club Monaco blazer has a straight cut and hits at the low hip.

If you need a two-button blazer, I think this Talbot’s blazer is one of the nicest on the market.  For something under-$50, try this NY & Co. blazer in all season stretch.

Plus-size?  This Eloquii one-button blazer and this lightweight Talbot’s blazer (also in petite-plus) are both lovely.  Petite?  Try this J.Crew Factory blazer.

H&M Ruched Jacket ($49)

The ruched sleeves on this affordable H&M blazer make it a more modern, relaxed choice.  The tailoring has a sleek look that could be effortlessly worn with jeans or business casual separates.  And you can’t do better for under-$50.

This Mango blazer has a slightly flared peplum with a chic seamed sleeve.  Mural makes an oversize blazer that is very on trend.  I’m also a fan of their slouchy boyfriend blazer and their Curve open-front blazer.  If you like something glamorous, try this double-breasted River Island blazer with gold buttons (also in plus).

When you buy a white blazer, take it home and try it on with some of your favorite dresses and separates to make new outfits.  It’s an extremely versatile piece that you will reach for over and over again.

While the DK blazer is beautiful, I’d rather not support her company after her attempt at defending Harvey Weinstein!

I get that. I’m not defending what she did. She messed up, big time. There’s no excuse for it. But as someone who has been a close friend to a man accused of doing something terrible to a woman, it’s a confusing, heartbreaking place to be in. Like Sarah Silverman said about Louis CK: What do you do when someone you love does something horrific?

DK’s comments just prove that the culture of victim shaming is so pervasive even a declared feminist can be sucked into it when someone they love is the accused (or in this case the guilty). She apologized, she’s given money to Time’s Up, she’s trying to make amends. If you choose not to shop her brand, that’s your choice. I think she’s honestly sorry, and I think she could do a lot of good work making up for her wrong, so I’m not on team Never Donna Karan.

That Donna Karen Blazer is to die for! So sleek.

I own the white H&M blazer featured here and it’s fabulous. I originally bought it for a specific event, but it’s become a staple year round. It’s light enough to wear in the summer over tanks/shells, but has enough room to wear in the winter over long sleeves. I did have to size up.

I’m always afraid of ruining white blazers. I usually opt for a hunter green or pink situation if I want to do something other than navy or black but these are really cute!

Love ruched sleeve blazers, I know they aren’t suit professional but working in tech I just need something that can dress up the rest of my outfit. Might have to try out that H&M one because I have similar blazers in black and navy, but not white. How does one keep a white blazer clean while existing in such a dirty world?
