Pleated Sateen Top ($20)

It’s been a little while since the morning post has featured an under-$50 week.  Given how many readers are young professionals, or ladies who work in fulfilling fields where the pay is not awesome, I wanted to put up a few affordable, stylish pieces.

Forever21 has some really cute things.  I can never go to the store because I find hunting the racks while surrounded by college students a bit overwhelming, but the website rocks.  This pleated top has nice structure and a pretty, pale blush hue.  I also like this blousy top in four fall hues for $10.  For a casual look, I love this short-sleeve top with a sheer yoke.

Need v-necks?  This white-and-black speckled blouse is a great basic.  This Mandarin collar top can be buttoned-up or unbuttoned to be flattering on women of any bust size.  I also like that this surplice top is stitched together to be less revealing, but still flattering.

Plus-size: I didn’t love the plus-size tops Forever21 had, so I went searching for something else.  I found this collarless Vince Camuto blouse in white.  I also like this blush wrap-front top from Target.

Petite: I love this sheer, dotted top from LOFT (also in misses).  They also make a bracelet-sleeve blouse in a pale mauve that is so lovely and feminine.

I would totally recommend trying on clothes at Forever21 versus shopping online (even though it can be a not great experience!) I’ve found really great work and fun clothes there that have lasted a long time, but there have also been duds. You really have to look at the craftsmanship, the hems, and the lengths!

Also, I’ve tried on the surplice top and it actually splits open when you move or lift your arms over your head. Do not recommend!

Ah, the great conundrum with Forever 21! Hate going in the store too because of the overwhelming factor and it’s always so disorganized and but shopping online just doesn’t let you see the quality of items.

Same thing with TJ Maxx, I can find some great things there but you gotta be in the mood to hunt, dig, and try on 10 things just to leave with 1 item.

I like the cheaper options that you show. Could you do a similar for drugstore skin/haircare makeup?

Forever 21 can get a bad rap for being way too cheapish and young, but I find if I stick with their Love21 collection I often find great items.
