For the Office, Left. This outfit has the kind of soft color palette that boosts the femininity of basic work separates. This ivory blouse is one of my favorites, but if you’re looking for something less expensive, try this sleeveless Anne Klein blouse or this gorgeous Pendleton blouse that’s only $40 (!!!). Plus-size? Try this lantern-sleeve blouse.
I would wear this look with the jacket closed, zipped up almost to the top, with the bow peeking out. You could also wear it open, it’s up to you. I chose the silver jewelry to match the silver hardware on the bag and the jacket. I adore these tiny silver studs, but if you’d like something with more impact, double-square drops from Target.
Want to inject more color into this outfit? Try a colored trouser. Cobalt could be nice. A dark green trouser would also be pretty.
For the hair, I would wear it down or half-up/half-down. If you want to add some style to your half-up hairdo, try this tutorial from The Small Things Blog. For the makeup, I would wear a dark pink lipstick like CoverGirl Lip Perfection in Siren.
For the Office, Right. I love the look of black and blush together. I would layer this biker jacket over the dress and tie the scarf in a BT standard knot. If you’re looking for a less expensive scarf, try this Topshop scarf or this Animal Oblong scarf from NY & Co.
A sleeveless black sheath is a versatile piece for any wardrobe. You can dress it for work, grab a pair of flats for casual Friday or add cool shoes and big jewelry for dinners out. If you’re looking for a less expensive option, Calvin Klein makes a nice sleeveless sheath. It also comes in plus-sizes. This Ann Taylor dress is great for petite or tall ladies.
I chose these rose gold wrapped pearls to coordinate with the rose gold hardware on the bag. I also like the way the peachy color of the metal plays with the pink in the jacket. If you prefer plain rose gold earrings, try these circle earrings from Kenneth Cole.
For the hair, I would wear it up in a twisted updo. For the makeup, I would wear a rose blush on the cheeks and take a liberal hand with the black eyeliner.
I’d be curious to know what the Folli Follie handbag looked/felt like in person – it’s polyurethane.
The outfit on the left reminds me of a question I keep meaning to ask: can you please do a short “How To” post about wearing short jackets/ cardigans over long blouses/tops? Maybe with some illustrations of people getting it right and – just as important to me for my education – getting it wrong? I have real trouble working out how to do this, and with some of my shorter jackets it is essential! (Well, that or be limited to wearing them over the dresses, which works well but limits the amount of use I can get from a piece.)
Thank you in anticipation!
Belle – Great post! I love all of the pieces and the styling.
