Sometimes, you just want to wear an outfit that you don’t have to think about. This desire, however, can lead people to commit atrocious crimes against fashion: velour track pants, pajamas in public, workout clothes in church, etc. But there is an alternative, and it couldn’t be simpler.
I love boatneck tees. Love ’em. Why? Because they look more stylish than a basic crew neck and they’re insanely flattering on small-chested women, such as myself. (Not small-chested, v-necks and shallow scoop necks should be your go to.) This tee from Old Navy is a closet staple and it costs just $13. That’s right, $13. I own 10. Well, that’s not entirely true. I own five (two white, one navy, one black, one grey).
I wear them with yoga pants when I’m lounging, with twill pants on rainy spring days and with skirts in the summertime. Because they are incredibly versatile and fun to accesorize with scarves and necklaces, and easy to layer in the colder weather. Here, I’ve added a Middle Eastern-inspired necklace from Kelly Framel’s jewelry collection. Sadly, most of her wares have sold out. But don’t worry, they’ll be a post on Bedouin-inspired jewelry on Wednesday.
As for the skirt, I like a basic maxi skirt. But after strolling through Penn Quarter this weekend and seeing a plethora of women in tattered, dirty skirts, I feel the need to point out that if you’re going to wear a maxi-anything it needs to be hemmed by a professional before you wear it. It’s not fashionable to have your skirt bottoms caked in filth from the street. And it’s probably not hygienic either.
These sandals were featured on the blog last week, and I’m still lusting after them, which is odd since I usually deplore all things boho. So you’d think a macramé-woven sandal would be out of my comfort zone, but apparently, you’d be wrong. As for the bag, a simple tote in a basic grey to carry your essentials.
All in all, this outfit is about as close as one can get to pajamas without actually wearing pajamas in public. You could also wear it on a long flight (remove necklace, add scarf/remove sandal, add flats) for comfort and warmth. It’s chic, easy, and comfortable. What more could you want from a weekend outfit?
Love the outfit! Keep up the great work!
