The cardigan is a wardrobe staple. And while I really like long cardigans, shorter cardigans are better for the office because they’re more fitted. This silhouette, just like it’s namesake Jackie Kennedy, is ladylike and feminine.
The Jackie Cardigan by J.Crew is the perfect addition to any wardrobe.
Ha! I totally agree. In fact, I'm wearing a Jackie cardi as I agree with you that they are an absolute must. There is almost never a day when I don't at least throw one in my bag just in case. Best $62 ever spent.
Ha, I'm actually wearing this exact cardigan. Color and all. Got it on sale for $40 on Friday.
Unfortunately (and I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem)…but I can't get this cardigan sized right. The medium seems a tad small and the large a tad too big. And after its washed, I find the banding along the bottom gets messed up (despite ironing) and just looks weird. I just don't feel like the material wears very well. This is extremely disappointing since its a great idea for a cardigan and I do find a shorter version to be very useful. Has anybody else had similar difficulties? Perhaps its just the color (purple) I bought…or last years model (and this years one is better?)
Thanks.
Does anyone else have a problem with the button holes on this cardigan looking huge and stretched out? Every time I've tried one on, it looks like it's been through a war. Does it go away after washing?
I will take one in every color please! It's a great basic, thanks for sharing.

Definitely,..one in every color!
Prosecutor, I'm with you as far as the being between sizes. The medium is slightly too small and the larger is too big/not fitted. I have a few in both sizes because I really want them to fit, but it's just not sized for me.
I have several of these, and they do not wear well…I wish they did because they are my absolute favorite cardigan but after a few washes they stretch out and the material gets pilly.
A little research in my lunch break revealed that JCrew has a stepped up version of the jackie cardigan called the jenna cardigan. Its merino wool (so perhaps not great for summer) and its a bit pricer but it looks similar (i.e. is cropped) and I just bet it wears better. Incidentally, I've never had a problem with a sweater before from JCrew so I was surprised how quickly the jackie cardigan loses its shape.
I ruined one hand washing. Now I dryclean them. Makes all the difference.
I love cardigans. Belle, I know that you had a posting about this, how women on C. Hill tend to make fashion faux pas by putting a cardigan over everything and calling it a work outfit, but it is surprising how well it actually works in most cases.
Some of my dresses are either yes, a little too dressy, or not quite dressy enough to pull a cardigan over and waltz into work, but a majority of those in between dresses look absolutely adorable with a nice cardigan or shoulder shrug over with a high waist belt.
That said, re: the posts above and the unfortunate durability-factor of most cardigans out there, no matter what the inside label might say about machine wash cold gentle cycle, lay flat to dry, I exclusively have my cardigans dry-cleaned. Sometimes the extra money every couple of weeks is absolutely worth it vs. buying a new cardigan every couple of months (plus it doesn't hurt that we have a dry cleaning delivery service here at the office).
So when in doubt, dry clean only.
