Intern Search: Meet CJ

Jul 15, 2010

Name(Pseudonym): CJ
(Belle’s Note: I offered all the prospects the chance to be anonymous, thus, the initials.)

Age: 24

Hometown: Cloverdale, Virginia

Profession/Major: Trip Director/ US Senate

Style Icon: Kate Hudson, as of late

Any special skills (Photoshop, CSS, etc.): Photography/photoshop, basic encoding. Compulsive editing (if that counts as a skill in blogging-world.)

Favorite Designer: Phillip Lim

Favorite Retail Line: Ann Taylor LOFT has come a long way, and this season’s accessories make my heart flutter.

Favorite Piece in Your Wardrobe: Broken-in pair of dark-wash Levi’s. What country girl can live without ‘em?

Piece You are Currently Coveting: I have been coveting the Chanel gown Jane Aldridge wore at last year’s Crillon ball for months. It cannot be appropriate to be this jealous of a 17 year old.

Favorite Beauty/Skincare Product: Hooked on Psssst, thanks to CHS. Other than that, a good moisturizer is the most versatile skincare weapon a woman has ever had. I’m addicted to good old-fashioned Oil of Olay.

It’s Friday night. Your phone rings. It’s Anna Wintour and she wants to take you to dinner.  Quick, what do you wear?: I’m probably already wearing the afore-mentioned jeans and the Lela Rose (for Payless!) booties in my picture, so I’d throw on a fresh white button-down, my mom’s grey tweed blazer that fits me perfectly after 30 years of use, and a vintage teal layer necklace I snapped-up from Etsy. Who am I to keep Anna Wintour waiting for a full outfit change?

In 200 words or less, tell us how you can contribute a fresh perspective to Capitol Hill Style.

I work in the Senate, so I can attest to the fashion atrocities of the other side of the Hill. There are fewer intern-related indiscretions, and more boxy pantsuits that one person should be exposed to in a thousand lifetimes. I dare say not even the most stylish of us could pull off head to toe olive green, but the ‘memo’ hasn’t reached the hallowed halls of the Senate campus. I’m young enough to know that the Hill is full of young professionals who don’t know how to dress work-appropriately without looking like they’re playing dress-up. As someone who was once voted Class Clown, I think I’m ideally positioned to keep up the high-quality humor and snark that Belle and Miss M have made CHS’s calling card.

In 140 characters, tell us why you want this internship.

Writing for @CapHillStyle would be a great hobby, and an excuse to feel productive while spending my days reading fashion blogs.

  1. Dr. Jean Grey says:

Seems like a good candidate. The post turned me on to a new blog I hadn’t read before, so that’s good. I really like that she actually works on the Hill. And, um, I can’t believe those booties are Payless. Nice job!

  2. Hae says:

I am a big fan of CJ’s writing style My favorite part about you is your compulsive editing habit! JK–I do love that part, but I really appreciate your sharp and witty language. I think she’s at an age where she’s already developed her core fashion sense, but can also grow as she sees new trends arise.

I covet those Lela Rose for Payless booties.

  3. cia says:

I wish there was more content here, but I like her writing style. Fresh and smart.

  4. BC says:

Great post. Love the humor and someone that actually wants to edit, seriously. Well done!!! This one has my vote!

  5. G says:

I really like this candidate. I also like that she is leaving herself anonymous because it leaves a certain degree of intrigue. I know that every day that I am on the metro I look at the women and think to myself, “is that Belle?”

  6. Bree says:

    LOVE HER.

  7. Allison says:

No. Broken in Levi’s? Come on, be creative!

  8. Mary says:

Love her vivid writing style and outlook!

  9. ack says:

Hate to be a downer, but “compulsive editing” should include correct placement of punctuation (in the same sentence, no less!). And should not include unnecessarily hyphenated verbs.

  10. Andrea says:

A good candidate, but not my favorite of the group.

  11. Lauren says:

    LOVE!

  12. Erica says:

Love her. She’s one of my favs.

  13. Rachel says:

#1 so far! I also enjoy that CJ is anonymous, just like Belle. For some reason I like NOT having a face with a name on Cap Hill Style, it means Belle can be more snarky when she slams a House member for wearing a hot pink pantsuit!

  14. Jessica says:

    I second Bree! Love her.

snarky enough but not mean, funny, shows personality, and that she also works on the Hill I think helps keep the blog focused on its mission!

  15. Emily says:

LOVE HER! She is my favorite of all the applicants.
