When I saw this jacket from Lilly Pulitzer, I tried to muster up some snark but the only thought I could manages was: “Dear God, are those pandas?”
As luck would have it, fashion guru Cintra Wilson has written a piece that is one part eloquence, one part fashion history lesson and two parts wit. Her thoughts on visiting the Lilly Pulitzer shop in NYC:
When I visited the newly refurbished two-story shop on Madison Avenue, I was, as usual, dressed entirely in black, which doesn’t make me self-conscious in most New York locales. But here, it was a bit like attending a children’s birthday party in a latex ski mask.
Glorious.
Cintra Wilson is an incredible wit. I love her New York Times clothing store reviews.
Best of all: this is a men’s blazer.
Men’s blazer? Sign me up. I am man enough to wear this for sure.
Lilly Pulitzer is very East Coast. As much as you might hate it Belle, that blazer would work at a number of functions.
Tis true that a panda loving man with too much money and not enough good sense could wear the jacket to Smith Point and Gold Cup and not appear a bit out of place. Of course, I could travel to Vegas and wear Uggs, Juicy sweat pants and an Ed Hardy tee to the grocery store and not look a bit out of place either. That doesn’t make it right.
