WFH Outfit: Simple and Easy Basics

Feb 5, 2024

After giving it some thought, I am re-working the Outfit posts to reflect the blog’s dual focus. On Mondays, there will be a work from home outfit. On Thursdays, an outfit designed for the office. The way, everyone gets what they need.

Let’s start our Work from Home posts with something easy — an outfit you can probably shop your own closet to recreate this Pinterest outfit. Because what’s better than reviving pieces you already spent money on?

Sweater // This slightly slouchy navy sweater with side slits says, “I’m cozy and stylish,” for all of us who work in a room with less than perfect HVAC. When wearing a longer sweater, I find that side slits keep it from smothering you, by creating a bit of movement.

For this look, I chose the Spanx AirEssentials sweater (so soft). If you prefer a knit, try this J.Crew turtleneck sweater (also in plus). Need something under-$75? Amazon has this fantastic oversized number with side slits.

Jeans // These AG Saige jeans are a great look for those who aren’t ready to relinquish a slimmer leg. The washed out denim hue is great. For something under-$150, I love these Emma Mid-Rise Boyfriend cuff jeans. These Lucky Brand sweet, straight legs are also a good option.

Also, you’re about to be bombarded with fashion magazines and influencers telling you that skinny jeans are dead. They’re not deceased, just dormant. So pull two-to-three of your best pairs and stick them in a drawer. Toss the rest for wider leg styles. They will come back again. They always do.

Shoes // I chose these red Geox ballet slippers for comfort. They’re the greatest if you really walk, or in my case, chase a toddler who I swear to God grew wheels on her feet. These are not, however, the most modern looking ballet flat. The current style is for a square toe with a higher vamp. These Mansur Gavriel’s are the ones, but for something more affordable, opt for the Sam Edelman’s.

Earrings // These Shashi hoops are the perfect gateway piece for mixing metals. With both yellow and white metal, you can use them to pull together any jewelry you want to wear. A great way to get more mileage out of your other pieces.

Handbag // I had been considering the Madewell bucket bag, but I hadn’t pulled the trigger. I’m so glad too, because this BR Vida bag has raced to the top of the leaderboard. All the goodness of the Madewell with just a bit more style.

Makeup and Styling // You need a little lip color this time of year to boost your mood and remove that corpse-like pallor. For a hint of hue and hydration, I love these Fresh lip colors. They’re an oldie, but goodie.

For the hair, this is one of those chic, low buns that I can never seem to master. Other women look classic and styled, I look like I just stepped off of a treadmill after sweating to the oldies (and by old, I mean early-aughts Britney). If you have longer hair, this is the method. Poor Little It Girl has a tutorial for short hair girlies.

I got the Madewell Essential Bucket Tote in the raisin color for Christmas. It is 100x more luxe than its price point. It holds a ton, stays closed, looks great, and actually stays on my shoulder.

For any other knitting readers – the pinterest pic is of Mette from PetiteKnit and the sweater is her Chestnut Sweater knit in one strand Pelsuld 8/2 by Hjelholts Uldspinderi in the colorway Marine [21] and one strand of Silk Mohair by Isager in colorway 100 held together.

Thanks for this. Pinterest makes it tough to find the source, but this explains why the one image I found that looked like it was in what looked like a Nordic language.
