Given that warmer temperatures are coming, it’s time to switch out some of my black pieces for navy ones. For today’s four ways, I chose a simple navy pencil skirt. Because who doesn’t already have one?
Skirt. J.Crew No. 2 Pencil Skirt
If you’re in need of a sleek pencil skirt, J.Crew’s four-season No. 2 Pencil is a good option. For my money, this discounted Hugo Boss skirt (size up if you’re pear-shaped) is the best bet. Plus-size? This Talbot’s skirt runs to size 22.
One. J.Crew Regent Blazer // Factory Dotted Blouse // Nine West Navy Pumps // Mabelle Drop Earring
The simplest look on the board today is a good choice for court or for a big hearing. A simple navy suit, paired with a navy-print blouse is a classic. Add in a classic navy pump and simple earring, and you’re all done.
Looking for a slightly different blouse? This Banana Republic floral blouse with hints of green is also nice. This chain print blouse is also worth a look.
Two. BR Chunky Cardigan // Ted Baker Aadele Blouse // Laura Vann Stud Earrings // Rothy’s Point Flats
For something with a bit more whimsy, I chose this floral Ted Baker blouse with a chunky cardigan. I like how the green accents in the floral print pair with the cardigan. If you prefer the purple hues, try this gorgeous lilac wrap cardigan.
I used Rothy’s because I was looking for a more relaxed look. Want a leather flat? Try this one from Banana Republic.
Three. J.Crew Classic Denim Jacket // J.Crew Cotton Terry Sweatshirt // Veja Gold Accent Sneaker // Lane Bryant Enamel Hoop Earrings
This relaxed outfit is a nice choice for weekend brunch or a casual dinner. If, like me, your life has become more casual than professional in recent years, a denim jacket and graphic t-shirt/sweatshirt make nice pairings for your pencil skirts.
The enamel hoops pull the pink dots from the sweatshirt print. It’s a subtle match-up. If you prefer to wear a ring, these pink enamel stack rings are worth a look.
I’ve heard good things about he Veja sneakers. I keep thinking I’ll pull the trigger, but I haven’t yet. I have heard the tongue is uncomfortable at first, many bloggers pull it tot he side to decrease the irritation.
Four. Rebecca Taylor Pleat Chiffon Blouse // Mango Crepe Blazer // Lapis Lazuli Earrings // Madison Mesh Pump
For the last outfit, a more modern take on the first professional look. The chiffon pleated blouse makes a nice day-to-drinks option. Just lose the blazer and add a cool earring.
Want a more classic look? This Brooks Brothers Boucle Jacket is fabulous. Or if you want a middle ground between the pale blue and tweed, try a simple white blazer.
I added the mesh pumps from yesterday because they’re fabulous. They add a little something extra to spring attire.

I have those veja sneakers. I found them very stiff at first, sort of making the velcro a little difficult to pull all the way, but now it seems loosened up. I didnt have issues with the tongue, but I think i usually wear socks with them so far.
I have two pairs of Veja sneakers and they are really hard to break into, but then they are the comfiest thing ever.
The Rebecca Taylor blouse is really great!
Four pieces, and four beautiful layering options. It makes me think about summer coming up; one of my biggest struggles with summerwear is how to make an outfit look pulled together when I’m, by necessity, wearing fewer layers (especially for casual clothes). Any tips?
Belts, scarves, jewelry and shoe choices can have a similar effect minus the layers.
