Ask the Edit: Do Eye Gels Work?

Jan 2, 2019

Who’s tired?  Oh, you too.  How is it none of us are getting enough rest?  Regardless, the right eye treatments can help soothe stressed under-eyes so you look like you’ve been sleeping.

Hi Abra:

There must have been a big promotion on those rose gold eye patches.  Every influencer I follow had an Instagram about them before the holiday.  Do those stick on patches do anything?  Which ones work?  Help.

I haven’t tried the rose gold eye masks, but I’ve tried the gold-foil Wander eye masks.  They’re soaked with serum to “brighten, hydrate and reduce under eye circles.”  I like them, and I saw some results, but they weren’t my favorite.

The best under eye gels I’ve use are these very affordable Aliver ones from Amazon.  I like the jelly texture and find them to be more moisturizing that the cloth ones.  They’re basically a knock-off of the Peter Thomas Roth 24k eye gels, and I think they work just as well (maybe better since they’re cheap enough you can use them regularly).

Ohh thanks for this. I’ve been wanting to get an eye mask, but haven’t pulled the trigger because I wasn’t sure what would work well and be affordable.

I bought the Aliver eye gels after seeing a post from Abra about them and swear by them. I get dark circles and some puffiness under my eyes and on my cheeks and these solve those issues in a snap. I don’t feel bad using them more frequently since they are so affordable. I frequently throw a pair in with gifts to my girlfriends. Over the holidays, my mom hadn’t slept and the bags under her eyes were really pronounced. She put a pair on and it was magic. Sometimes, I even get my stubborn hubby to don a pair after a late night out. Can’t say enough good things about them.

I like the Peter Thomas Roth cloud ones because they are not as wasteful and messy as individually packaged ones and they easily stay on when I’m moving around getting ready, but I do keep the Acure or BeautyBio individual ones on hand to throw in when I travel. I think keeping them chilled ups the effectiveness immensely!

Skyn Iceland makes these amazing eye gels that are amazingly cooling and refreshing for tired eyes. I find they make a huge difference especially for early morning puffiness and the telltale blue undereye circles. Ulta has an eight pack for $30.
