Since I started my externship, I’m back to walking to work. (Parking is so expensive.) And when the weather hits the triple-digits, I need more protection from sweat and body odor than my underarm deodorant can offer alone. My solution spray-on anti-perspirant.
I was using Nivea Calm & Care, but started to notice a flaky buildup on my skin. Not a fan. So I decided to switch to Dove’s new Dry Spray Antiperspirant.
The Dove spray is much lighter than the Nivea, and disappears easily into skin. Just remember to apply it before your moisturizer or it’s basically worthless. I also didn’t notice any flaking or buildup, which was a definite improvement. But I had one major issue that I couldn’t get past, the fragrance.
The standard scent is jasmine, which I loathe and clashed with my perfume. They also make it in cucumber and green tea scent but that was just as obnoxious. The only fragrance that didn’t make me want to gag was the pomegranate and verbena. But I still kept wondering why they just can’t make one that’s fragrance free.
Turns out that they do…for men. Of course.
The Men + Care unscented spray is perfect. It lasts 48-hours, and has a little bit of moisturizer so it won’t dry out my skin. It also doesn’t clog my pores, which is great. So once again, the solution to my sweat and body odor woes is a men’s product. Shocker.
It’s also probably cheaper than the female product too! More bang for my buck!
Wait, apply before moisturizer?! This explains why mine hasn’t been working as well.. .Belle, quick question. You apply moisturizer on after the spray dries and it still works? Thanks!
Thank you for this informative post! I have been using and loving the Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant since it launched. I use the “Beauty Finish” and for me it has a light baby power scent. At first spray it seems like it may have a stronger smell but I have not found that to be the case. I wanted a light smell and this does the trick. I only spray under my arms and it dries quickly with no residue under my arms or on my clothing. I also use Secret’s “mean stinks” spray to freshen up during the day. The Secret spray has also worked well to reduce chaffing. I spray it on my shapewear shorts that I wear under my skirts and dresses.
Thanks to your recommendation, I tried it (bought it at Amazon since I couldn’t find at the local drugstore) and liked it a lot. For those thinking of checking it out, it has a manly scent when you spray it on, but it goes away and is truly unscented. For the busty gals, this works really well for under the boobs.
My local Target is always out of the pomegranate, which is my preferred scent, but does have a women’s unscented version (FYI)
Thank you so much for this post! I use the cucumber one but my husband complains that it hurts his sinuses! I will try the men’s unscented version
Brilliant – I put my bike on the train in the morning (so I’m fine when I get to work) and bike to meetings and home (when I get sweaty). Definitely getting this.
Thanks KT, I’ll check out Target!
Great post! I’ve been using the Dove dry spray for several months now and I love it. FYI: I use the “Sensitive Skin” version for women and it has almost no detectable scent, even though it’s not marked as “unscented.” Weird, right!? My skin reacts to most scents but I haven’t had any issues with this deodorant. I’d suggest giving it a try!
Hi Belle — Unrelated to this post, but I wanted to let you know that our firewall on the Hill has blocked the Shopstyle links you use to link products. Totally bummed out about this!
You work on the hill…why would you be shopping and perusing blogs while at work? Not the most effective use of taxpayer dollars.
