For the Office. Layered looks are great, but sometimes, I just want a simple outfit that I can throw on when I’m busy that I know looks great. It’s why I’m such a big fan of three piece looks like this one. Mixing the kelly green blouse with a cardigan trimmed in the same shade and dark denim jeans is an easy outfit that looks pulled together.
If I were wearing this outfit, I would leave the cardigan unbuttoned. However, if you want to go for the full Emma Pillsbury, feel free to button it and let the bow hang out.
The accessories for this outfit are classic and simple. A pair of green and gold earrings to complement the blouse. A nice, oversized gold watch for a bit of form and function. And a simple crossbody bag and t-strap sandal.
For the hair, I would wear it down and curled under at the ends or in a flipped ponytail. For the makeup, I would wear a bright cheek color with a pale pink eyeshadow base and contrasting taupe color.
For Sundays in the Park. This outfit showcases a 4″ J.CREW short. As I’ve mentioned before, it is amazing how much more flattering that one, small inch is on most women. For me, it just cuts across the leg in a much more flattering place and conceals the secretary spread that I just can’t seem to beat. Such is the curse of a working woman.
I mixed green and pink for a fun preppy look. However, this top would look great with yellow shorts or cobalt shorts. If I were wearing this outfit, I would tuck just the front part of the shirt into the shorts. (For a visual aid, click here.)
I like preppy, but I don’t want to be overwhelmed by it. So I added a bit of funk to the accessories with a stud earring and a wood bangle. Also, I included this bag (an obvi Reed Krackoff knock-off) before I knew it was sold out. The link above is for something similar. Add a simple sandal and a pair of wayfarers, and the outfit is complete.
For the hair, I would wear it in a high ponytail or a casually twisted updo. For the makeup, I would keep it very simple with a tinted moistuizer, some bronzer, a pop of pink blush on the cheeks and a pink gloss. I’d also paint my nails a shockingly bright pink, just for fun.
Belle,
It doesn't seem as though your link to a visual aid re: look two is live. I'd love to see an example, because I'm tuck-dumb.
Apologies, it's up now.
Belle, can you really wear skinnies to work on causual Fridays? I'm asking not acusing. Thanks!
80% of the jeans worn on the Hill are skinny. It's not a problem for me, if it's a problem for you, switch styles.
Thanks for recommending the J. Crew shorts before! I avoided wearing shorts outside of the gym for years, but I tried on a pair of these last week and ended up getting them in two colors. They are seriously miracle shorts.
I love these pyramid stud earrings. I've been on the hunt for some for a while. Could I get away with them in a suit, or conservative work outfit?
(These specific ones from Modcloth might not quite be what I'm looking for, as much as I love the price. The shape is right, but they're a bit oversized and ironical looking on the model.)
